About Our CompanyMerle J. Whaley received his formal education in Yampa, Colorado, then continued on to Mesa College in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he met his wife Margaret, whom he married in 1960.
Merle continued his education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado [BA in Math 1964], the University of Illinois, Colorado State University, the University of Colorado, and Western State College [MA in Education 1969].
Merle and Margaret have a family which includes three sons — Frank [born in 1963], Wes [1964], and Glen [1969] — and their wives and five grandchildren.
Merle taught in Los Alamos, New Mexico, Sterling, Colorado, and for nineteen years in Grand Junction, Colorado, for a total of twenty-four years.
The Whaley Gradebook Company is family owned and operated, and our number one priority is to organize and save time for teachers.
The three-lined attendance and grade record book was developed because of a need for immediate reports on students' attendance, progress, and grades. The one-line gradebooks were not satisfactory for immediate progress reports and the availability and access time of computers at that time caused Merle to search for a more efficient method.
Most of the teachers now using the 3-line gradebooks can determine each student's progress in seconds. Many teachers have been extremely pleased to have a more flexible gradebook.
Merle and Margaret have traveled the United States showing their gradebook to thousands of educators. The response to the use of space and the flexibility of the gradebook has been warm indeed!
We wish you success and happiness,
